Andrew Killick, Aotearoa New Zealand

Scholar May 2020

Born and raised in Auckland, I now live in Northland with my wife Anna. I have been actively involved in art, music, design, photography, video, poetry, prose and publishing for over 25 years. I am the publishing manager at Castle Publishing where I have assisted many New Zealand Christians in the publishing of their books.

I appeared as a performing poet at the Parachute Festival from 1996-2004, and published a collection of poetry, Epilogue, in 2005. I then began to focus on developing my visual art, which is conceptual in nature and usually photography-based. Amongst other projects, I create video with Auckland experimental music group the Lower Bar Collective.

I carry out my solo creative work under the moniker Safe Little World and am now working on a series of publications incorporating my visual art and writing, exploring various themes through a (theo)poetic lens and incorporating threads of my interest in the contemplative life. The first of these Safe Little World Monographs, Islands, was published in 2019 by my Shadow Press imprint, with at least two more to follow in 2020. I will use my time at Vaughan Park to further my work on this series.

I blog about the contemplative life at Some of my visual work can be found at and my publishing imprint at

I hold an MA (Hons) in English Literature from the University of Auckland.
