Labyrinth

Our vision

To create a garden of significance that brings meaning and beauty, invites community engagement and is accessible to all, located in the grounds of Vaughan Park.

Our centre

Vaughan Park is a non profit retreat and conference centre open to all both within and without the Anglican church, nestled on the hillside overlooking Long Bay beach on the North Shore of Auckland. It is a special place where people find solace and nourishing in equal measure.

Our hope

The addition of a Labyrinth provides an opportunity to enhance the gardens and provide the jewel in the crown for bigger garden plans including a sculpture trail.

It will be an inspirational and creative place, with pathways that twist and turn leading towards the centre...a place where meaning and healing can be experienced.

Our need

We need your help. Your gift or koha could make the Labyrinth possible and you would be acknowledged for your support.

Why build a Labyrinth?

The Labyrinth is an ancient symbol dating
back 4,000 years or more that relates to
wholeness. It combines the imagery of the
circle and the spiral into a meandering but
purposeful path.
The Labyrinth symbol
transcends race, culture and
religion.
The Labyrinth is a metaphor for
what is sacred in our lives-it can
hold all our life experiences in
its ancient form and spacious
pathways. It represents a
journey to our own centre and
back again out into the world.
In the middle ages Labyrinths were used as a
way for people to participate in a pilgrimage
without the need to go to another place. The
experience of walking through the Labyrinth
connects us back many centuries to the
thousands of people who have found the
Labyrinth to be a source of power and healing.
