Calling in Retirement

19 November 2018

A training and retreat day for those approaching retirement and those who have finished full time work in the last year.

Retirement is a time of significant change for people. There are many ways to move towards and into retirement and many issues to think through.

The day will be a mix of presentation from the front, interactive exercises as well as opportunities for time alone to think, plan and pray including:

  • Challenges & opportunities in retirement
  •  Exploring your calling for retirement
  •  A balanced lifestyle

. Please bring a notebook or journal.

Following a business degree and a management career in the glass and brewing industries in the UK, Helen sensed a call to work in the Christian sector. She spent a year studying theology at St John's College Nottingham. In 1991 she was appointed as director of administration for All Souls Church, Langham Place in London. From 1999 to 2016 she worked at Evangelical Alliance UK, since 2007 as executive director: finance & services. She has been a trustee of several Christian charities. She now has a part time portfolio under the banner Calder’s Consultancy: “Sharing 40 years’ experience with churches, charities and individuals”. This includes mentoring, training, developing resources & consultancy.

Helen finished full time work in 2016. In 2017 Helen developed and ran a 5 session life group for people approaching retirement in a local church setting. She is the Vaughan Park scholar for November 2018 developing resources for churches, charities and individuals in New Zealand.
